Divine Hunger
Following Jesus and Discerning Counterfeits in a Spiritually Confused World
Our Book

As “spiritual but not religious” beliefs become the largest belief system in the United States, Christians are tempted to respond with confusion, assimilation, or fear. This book equips Christians to confidently engage with the spiritual hunger of our culture by helping them understand the spiritual landscape, disentangle authentic Christianity from New Age confusion, and compassionately live on mission. By offering a balanced, biblical, and faith-filled perspective, it empowers believers and local churches to seize one of the greatest opportunities before us: to lovingly share the Gospel with a spiritually curious world.
Pre-Order Divine HungerMore About Divine Hunger
It was an absolute joy and dream to write this book alongside my good friend, Matthew Tingblad. Way back in 2013 God strongly put this book concept on my heart and over the past 14 years, He has been molding it and forming it so intentionally to be released at this specific time (May 2027).
I (Taylor) met Matthew (my co-author) on my first day at Talbot Seminary and had no idea back then that we would be working on this project together years later. Together, we wrote Divine Hunger as a labor of love for the Church, whom we love with a fiery passion.
The book is organized into 3 parts:
- A Cultural Assessment: In Part 1, we explain the unprecedented rise of spiritual interest in our world. We highlight the alarming surge of New Age spirituality and cast a vision for what could happen if faithful Christians grounded themselves in the Gospel, boldly sharing the truth and love of God with those who are hungry. We explain concepts such as New Age Spirituality, “Spiritual but Not Religious” (SBNR), alternative spirituality, paganism, and spiritual mixing, and trace the growth and evolution of these movements in America’s history. And we close this section by casting vision for what God is doing in a spiritually hungry world.
- Discernment: In Part 2, we discuss the battle between authentic and counterfeit spirituality, we give a crash course on worldviews and how they shape how we think about/understand reality, and we categorize beliefs and practices as “spiritually beneficial”, “neutral”, or “dangerous”, and we offer a helpful method for sorting through these categories. A discerning Christian not only understands the dangers of false spirituality, but also the life-giving path of following Jesus so we close this section by addressing how our deepest longings and needs are met only through knowing and following God’s way.
- Practical Implications: In Part 3, we dive into the practical implications for living faithfully as Christians on mission in our spiritually hungry world. We discuss the three ways Christians can respond to the changing culture we find ourselves in. Reminding our readers of our high calling and responsibility to love others better than anyone else has ever loved them, we train our readers how to share the Gospel and demonstrate the many ways the unchanging Gospel can be presented, becoming all things so that we might win some (1 Cor. 9:19–23). Rather than only going through a study or program, we stress the importance of hands-on, life-on-life relational discipleship. And then we close this section by emphasizing how Christians have a wonderful opportunity to be God’s instruments for restoring a spiritually compromised world in areas such as science, education, business, and art.
With the help of some of our expert friends at Awana, we also wrote an incredibly helpful appendix called: “Eight Core Practices For Raising Spiritually Resilient Children”
We pray that this resource lights a fire in you for the Lord and His great love for New Agers, who are searching desperately for the peace that only He can give them.
